Responsibilities and Duties
The Medina County Sheriff’s Civil Division is located at the Medina County Courthouse, which is located at 225 E. Washington Street Medina, OH 44256.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Per the Ohio Revised Code, the Sheriff is required to support the county court systems in the enforcement and service of court orders and civil & criminal documents.
OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Inspecting county junk yards, tow storage lots, and tow trucks utilized by the Sheriff’s Office.
- Providing security in domestic situations for removal of personal or business property (better known as “stand-by-assists”).
- Escorting of other county departments with money deposits and shipments of food stamps.
- Disposing of abandoned vehicles in Medina County, such as vehicles abandoned along highways and trailers abandoned at campgrounds.
- Our Civil Deputies serve Summons, Indictments, Subpoenas, Evictions, Protection Orders, Anti-Stalking Order, Probate Orders.
Sheriff Sales
The Medina County Sheriff’s Civil Division staff set foreclosure sale dates for all foreclosed properties within Medina County. The staff works closely with the courts and law firms prior to the sale. The staff continues to work with the courts, law firms, and the buyers after the sale to secure the deeds to the properties. All sales are pursuant to the provisions of the Ohio Revised Code. Our Sheriff sales are held on scheduled Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. Learn more about out Sheriff sales.
Basic Information
Properties are advertised for three consecutive weeks beginning five weeks prior to sale in the Medina County Gazette. This is your legal source of information. Opening bids start at 2/3rds of appraisal value (appraisal is by exterior only). No property can be sold for less than 2/3rds of the appraised value at the first scheduled sale. Any properties that do not sell at the first scheduled sale shall be offered for sale at the next scheduled sale date with no minimum bid.
A court order is required to withdraw a property from sale. Withdrawal orders received by our office prior to the week of any scheduled sale are noted on our website and updated each day. Public notices are hereby given that all such real property to be sold at Public Auction may be subject to any liens that may not be extinguished by the sale, and purchaser are urged to research prior to the bidding. The defendant currently owns the property in question and, as such, you CANNOT see the inside of the property for sale. Entering the property without the permission of owner(s) or occupants is a violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2911.21, punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a fine.
Properties will be open for bid at least seven days immediately prior to the date of sale. This is generally known as a proxy bid.
All participants who want to bid on a property offered by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office must register with Realauction.com. Registration will include completion of the Purchaser Information Form.
To be a qualified participant, bidders must submit a deposit based on the total deposit requirement ($2,000/ $5,000/ $10,000 set by law) for all properties on which the bidder wishes to bid by the predefined deadlines. The only acceptable deposit types are bank wire transfer or ACH, no cash deposits will be accepted. All Wire Deposits must be received by 5 p.m., two (2) business days before the auction sale date. All ACH Deposits must be initiated by 4 p.m., five (5) business days before the auction sale date. It is the responsibility of the bidder to plan ahead and allow enough time for their bidding deposits to be received and processed within the timeframes described above.
On scheduled Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the online auction will begin. Auction will be conducted for each individual property; however only one property will be sold at a time. After a property is sold the next scheduled property sale will begin.
Plaintiff/Judgment Creditors are required to register for a Username and Password and fill in all appropriate fields. Per Ohio Revised Code 2329.211. Important Information
medina.sheriffsaleauction.ohio.gov will conduct webinar training classes. Training classes will be held via the Internet on a regular schedule. These webinar classes generally last 90 minutes and specifically cover the use of the software. Attendance is by registration only.
